With any type of dysarthria, sound production is difficult. It all depends on the child's age and the severity of the disorder. 👉What should you do if a 4-year-old child replaces hissing sounds with whistling ones: Ш=С (hat-sapka), Ж=З (beetle-zook), Ч=Ть/Сь (seagull-tyaika-syaika), Щ=Сь/Ть (brush-net-tyotka), and how to produce the sound Ч correctly? ✔First, it is necessary to conduct a diagnosis and determine the nature of the disorder. ✔Second, we prepare the articulatory apparatus for producing hissing sounds (the SH sound), creating phonemic readiness for producing sounds (the SH sound). ✔Third, we develop hissing sounds. You can start with the SH sound, and then Zh, Ch, Shch. You can begin with the Ch sound and use it as a base. It is important to focus on the child themselves and which sound from the hissing group is easier for them. 👉The hissing sounds [Sh], [Zh] are not always produced even by a six-year-old. Instead of the word "shishka" (cone), you might hear "syska," "fyfka," "tytka," and even... "khykhka." Well, exactly like in V. Dragunsky's "Deniskiny rasskazy" (Stories). In the first case, the hissing sounds are replaced by the sibilant [S] sound. In the second case, the hissing sounds are pronounced labiodentally, and in the third, they are pronounced labially. In the latter case, we observe a back-tongued pronunciation of sibilants. All of these defects are abnormal. They, like the defects of the sounds [S], [S'], [Z], [Z' ], [Ts], are called sigmatisms and parasigmatisms. 👆There is still debate: should the lower pronunciation of sibilants be considered defective? With this pronunciation of the sounds [Sh] and [Zh], the wide tip of the tongue is positioned at the bottom of the mouth, and the back of the tongue rises steeply upward, toward the palate, forming a slit. Speech therapists of the older generation correct this pronunciation. Younger specialists consider this state of affairs normal and leave things as is. 👉The most difficult case to correct is 👅lateral sigmatism of sibilants. In this case, one of the lateral edges of the tongue constantly drops and refuses to remain in an elevated position. Sounds take on a squelching sound, and the cheek vibrates. 👅Interdental sigmatism, when the tip of the tongue protrudes between the teeth. This may be due to hypotonia of the tongue muscles.
