A monolith of stability and human resilience on a planet that's fighting to get rid of us. Towering up and out of the atmosphere as far as the eye can see. Residential districts, parks, markets, industrial sectors, a fully sustainable ecosystem constructed within the greatest tower humanity has ever built. The main transport elevator takes nearly a full day to reach the top, with rest stops along the way. Similar to what people used to call road trips back on Earth. Perched at the very top is Orbit City. A bustling megacity housed within an orbital ring where millions of people live and work. I've been to the Anchor a number of times, mostly to pick up the odd lumen stone from the lower markets for my collection. But I've never gone to Orbit City. I've wanted my family to live there since I was young but we were never granted Anchor resident status. Life on the surface has been ruthless. Astra storms, living off of oxygen reserves for half the year, eating crops grown in the biofields, yuck. Those were just the cards we were dealt, I guess. But things are finally looking up. Last winter I completed my degree at the Stratos Institute to become a Skykeeper, and today I start my new job in the Anchor. I'll be cleaning and maintaining the numerous internal weather systems that affect parks, gardens, farms, and a bunch of other places. It's like air conditioner repair but on a massive scale. I'll be given a small housing unit in the Maintenance District about halfway up the Anchor along with a Skykeeper transit pass that will allow travel for each day's work orders. After five years, I'll have resident status and be able to move my family into the lower districts. And maybe one day we can finally move to Orbit City. Until then, I'll miss them dearly, thinking about their struggles on the surface every day. But these are the necessary steps to make a better life for them.
