Hit by a Storm in Kosovo — Trans Dinarica Ep.9

In this video Bill and I set off from Štрпце and ride through Kosovo over three days, passing through Prizren, Gjakovë and Peja, before crossing briefly back into Montenegro and then into our final new country of the trip, Serbia, ending the video in the vibrant city of Novi Pazar. The highlight of this stretch (if you can call it that) was a huge storm that hit as we were riding into Peja. Hailstones, lightning in every direction, and wind strong enough to be throwing scaffolding boards off a building right next to us. I took shelter under a building overhang and waited it out, and fortunately once it passed we only had a couple of miles to ride to reach our apartment for the night. We also take a day off in Peja and head out for a walk through the stunning Rugova Gorge. Beyond the excitement of the storm this is a slightly more relaxed stretch of the trip, the daily stages are fairly manageable in both mileage and climbing, and each night is spent in very reasonably priced accommodation as has become the pattern on this tour. The Trans Dinarica is a 5,500km bikepacking route crossing eight countries through the Balkans — Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania.
