How did the Soviet soldier become a symbol of the liberation of Europe and the final defeat of Nazism? In the tenth lecture of “The Road to Victory”, we trace the heroic path of the Red Army from the defense of Moscow to the capture of Berlin and the victory over Japan in the Far East. In this lecture: • the Red Army's liberation campaigns in Europe; • the liberation of Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and other countries; • the Vistula–Oder and Berlin Operations; • the capture of Berlin and the end of the Great Patriotic War; • the humanitarian mission of Soviet soldiers; • the liberation of concentration camp prisoners and the rescue of civilians; • the defeat of Japan's Kwantung Army; • the liberation of Manchuria, Korea, South Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands. You will learn about the role of the Soviet soldier in the liberation of Europe and Asia, why the final stage of the Second World War became a symbol of courage and self-sacrifice, and the tremendous price that was paid for the Great Victory.
